When you seal concrete joints, the goal is to prevent water, ice, and dirt from entering the joint and getting beneath the subgrade. Joint sealing can also help to prevent intrusion from under the slab, namely radon. If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your floors and slabs, sealing can be an effective way to do that. Another great way to protect your concrete can be a penetrating concrete sealer.

You may be wondering how exactly this process works, so we’re here to explain. Step 1 consists of preparing the area in which we would widen narrow or cracked joints with a concrete blade or grinder. Step 2 is cleaning off your concrete. We would clean all the dust and debris from your concrete by means of compressed air or water. This allows the concrete to have a clean surface for bonding. Step 3 would be adding a backer rod to concrete joints. A backer joint is put into place to ensure an even layer of caulking is applied. It also helps to mitigate material loss. The last step is applying the caulk. The material is placed in the joints and is allowed time to cure.
