WHAT IS CONCRETE JOINT SEALING?
The purpose of sealing concrete joints is to prevent water, ice, and dirt from getting into the joint and beneath the subgrade; it can also help prevent intrusion from under the slab, namely radon. Sealers can also improve the appearance of floors and slabs. Joint sealing and penetrating concrete sealers are two of the best ways to protect your commercial or residential concrete investment.
At CMC Solutions, we are focused on streamlining the process to make sure your investment is protected and accessible.
HOW JOINT SEALING WORKS
STEP 1: PREPARE THE AREA
Widen narrow or cracked joints with a concrete blade or grinder.
STEP 2: CLEAN OFF YOUR CONCRETE
Next, clean all of the dust and debris from your concrete by means of compressed air or water. This allows a clean surface for bonding. Let dry completely before next steps.
STEP 3: ADD BACKER ROD TO CONCRETE JOINTS
Backer rod is put into place to ensure an even layer of caulking is applied, as well as mitigating material loss if using self-leveling sealant.
STEP 4: CAULKING IS APPLIED
Material is placed in joints and allowed to cure. Make sure sealers are fully cured before foot or vehicle traffic.
